How we support you

No one should face a cancer diagnosis alone. We provide various safe spaces and opportunities to share, listen, and gain emotional support at your own pace.

Local meetups

Regular in-person meetups at York Acomb Library, offering relaxed, supportive gatherings where you can share a tea, talk openly, and connect with others on a similar journey.

"Walking into my first meetup in York felt daunting, but the warmth and immediate empathy I received made me feel truly seen and understood for the first time."

Common questions

Here are answers to common questions about attending our sessions, accessing peer support, and getting involved with CancerChitChat.

Who can attend the support groups?

Anyone affected by cancer is welcome—whether you are undergoing treatment, a survivor, a family member, a primary carer, or simply looking for someone to talk to.

Do I have to speak at group meetings?

Not at all. You’re very welcome to simply sit, listen, and enjoy a cuppa until you feel comfortable sharing your story. And if you don’t feel ready to share, that’s absolutely fine too.

Are the meetings free to attend?

Yes, all our support meetings and community discussions are completely free to attend for everyone.

Where do you meet in York?

We meet on the third Thursday of every month at Acomb Library in York. Dates and updates are shared on social media.

Our meetings offer a welcoming space to meet like-minded people, share ideas, and enjoy friendly discussion. Whether you are joining us for the first time or are a regular attendee, everyone is welcome to come along and get involved.

Can family members and carers attend?

Yes, we actively welcome carers, partners, and friends who often need their own space to talk and connect with others in similar roles.

How can I share my story on the website?

We warmly encourage members to share their personal stories and practical tips. Contact us by email or speak with a group coordinator to contribute, connect, and be heard by people who truly understand what you’re going through.
